Here’s another shot that was best taken from the back.

This was at a parade I covered on assignment for a community newspaper, who bought first rights to the photo.

I do wish I’d gotten all of the girl’s waving hand in the frame, and all of her other foot. But I had a long lens on my camera and was in the middle of the street with more parade entries behind me. I couldn’t really back up, and at least I caught the wave. It was the best I could do at the moment.

I’ve since bought a second camera body for just such cases and keep a wide-angle lens on one and a long lens on the other. It’s awkward to hike around with two cameras flung around my neck, but hey, I more often get the shot I’m after.

  1. That’s one of my Scio Preschool girlies! Thanks!

    • She was so adorable, JaAnna – how her bicycle would wobble when she’d take one hand off the handle bars to get in a wave here and there to the crowd!
