This is the Gilkey Covered Bridge in Scio, Oregon. The friendly residents in this small town pride themselves in their bridges. They call Scio (SIGH -oh) the “Covered Bridge Captiol of the West.”
There are five covered bridges in the Scio area. Maps for a driving or bicycling tour of the bridges are available around town.

Gilkey Bridge was built in 1939 and reconstructed sometime later. It is still in use, on a back country road – beautiful with autumn leaves falling nearby.

I took this shot three days ago. It was a gray, overcast day, so I warmed the color up a bit in Photo Explosion. Blue skies, or morning or evening light would really make a photograph of this scenic landmark pop.
