I took this shot several years back with a little Canon PowerShot that my husband now uses. The camera has its limitations, but I could capture nice images with it as long as subjects weren’t moving too quickly.

For years, I’d admired the way sunlight streams through fog and trees in the Oregon rain forests. This was the first time I’d managed to capture the effect.

My husband and I were driving around along logging roads above Sweet Home, Oregon one fall evening. I saw how the light was beaming through the Douglas firs and asked him to stop. I got out of our pickup and shot a few frames of the scene in front of us. My husband motioned for me to look behind us. I turned around and was able to make this photograph.

We have this photo matted, framed and hanging in our front room. It’s still one of my all-time favorites.  Everytime I look at it, I am transported back to this moment in this chunk of woods.

The shot is straight out of the camera. It did well in some competitions I entered years ago. A best of class in one show, if I’m remembering correctly.
