My son is actually holding a tangerine not an orange. He’d peeled it himself – which was a pretty big accomplishment for him – and he thought it looked like the sun, so he asked me to take a picture of it.

By placing the focal point on the tangerine, I think it makes a fun, silly and sort of unusual child portrait.

This shot reminds me of the holiday season. When I was a child, my mom bought tangerines by the boxful at Christmastime. We’d eat two or three of the sweet, juicy little citrus fruit everyday in December.

No scurvy in our family!
