This boy was fascinated with the flame on a candle in a jar.

I took this while on assignment last December. The event was a community Christmas gathering held at the historical ZCBJ Hall in Scio, Oregon. Included was caroling, tree decorating, Santa and this candle-light processional.

The children all gathered in the front of the hall for their candles. The overhead lights were shut off and the children carried their lit candles up the center aisle among the audience to the back of the hall near the stage. Carolers sang behind them.

I set my ISO to a high number in preparation and of course turned off the flash to use only the existing candle light.

Some shots turned out blurry because of the slow shutter speed. But some shots turned out really beautifully, with angelic-looking children like this little boy.
