This shot shows the intensity of a good herding Border collie while working sheep.

Like today’s earlier post, this photo was also taken at Wolston Farms during their annual “Sheep Thrillz” Sheep Dog Trials at the farm outside Scio, Oregon. Click here for more info on the farm and the dog trials.

I covered the event as a newspaper assignment last year. I sold first rights of this shot to Scio News.

For 14 years, a Border collie named Francie was my constant companion. Got her at five weeks and had to have her put down last December when her legs would no longer hold her up. She was the best dog I’ve ever known.

Border collies are intense and they need a job. We don’t keep sheep, so my dog’s job was fetching a ball or Frisbee. She took her job very seriously and as a young dog won a prize at a competition for most balls retrieved in a set amount of time.

Border collies will always be very dear to my heart.
