Emus have amazing eyes. Theirs look more like ape eyes than typical bird eyes. It’s a treat to me to photograph them, and I do so every chance I get.

I got the chance the end of February when I made this image at the Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon.

  1. Do you have one of these birds on yuor farm?

    • No emus on our little farm, just the six alpacas — 3 are pregnant – a horse, a dog and several cats. I’m taking an alpaca to the vet today for an eye injury. I’m afraid she may lose the eye. It’s got me so stressed out. I hate it when my animals get sick.

  2. Nice photo! Emus are not a pretty bird. Neither are ostriches.

  3. Ah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think both kinds of birds have their own unique beauty to them.

  4. I agree, Emus are awesome! I’m privileged to have seen them in the wild here in Australia…amazing is all I can say! Beautiful portrait!
