As a photojournalist, I love moment shots. To me, moment shots trump posed, carefully set-up shots any day because they are so real.

This photo is of my daughter and her puppy, Kamo. It was part of a magazine assignment my daughter and I did together for Farm & Ranch Living two years ago. This is one of the shots that made the cut.

The only way to capture moment shots is to be in the right place at the right time, with your camera ready. Anticipation and expectation are important. Try to anticipate the place to be to capture a certain sort of shot. And anticipate your shutter speed, ISO and aperture and have them adjusted and ready. But if you don’t have the settings just perfect, take the shot anyway. What have you got to lose? Sometimes “mistakes” turn out to be very appealing photographs.

Keep watching for those beautiful, emotional moments.

Happy shooting!

  1. Me too Reem. They’re the best. A challenge to capture and a thrill when you do.
