This crowned sparrow resides at the Oregon Gardens in Silverton, Oregon.

I took the photo last month while there on assignment. A group from the Scio Senior Club went to the gardens for an outing and I went along to do a story for the Scio News.

The purple in the foreground is a pansy. The bird was pecking around in grass at the edge of a bed of flowers.

When photographing low-to-the-ground subjects, such as animals or children, I like to sit, squat, or even lie on the ground – whatever is required to have my camera at eye level.

In the case of this photo, I got as low as I could as quickly as I could without scaring the sparrow away.

Summer is here – happy summer to you all! And hello and thanks to the new followers, older followers (or should I just say the more experienced flollowers?) Facebook friends and family and other visitors of this blog. I appreciate you!
