This is Sandy. She’s a five-month-old camel who I “met” at the Oregon State Fair at the end of August.

Fair goers could ride Sandy’s mama and other adult camels for a price. I didn’t ride, I just admired and took photos.

Since getting alpacas a year ago – we have nine now – I’ve got a real fondness for camels. Alpacas, llamas and camels all belong to the same family – camelids – and have some of the same traits.

I like how the red in Sandy’s halter is echoed in the blanket hanging on the fence to the left.
