My boys called themselves ice ninjas during the deep freeze that swept through three weeks ago. They picked up sticks and happily, yet seriously, set about whacking the ice from low-hanging tree branches.

Just their feet, but these shots capture their personality.

The first grader, left, is quick and active, darting from here to there at the speed of sound. Nothing holds his attention for long, and he rushes through everything, including getting dressed. His boots on the wrong feet is good testimony to this.

Our third grader, right, is slower and more cautious. He also gets cold easily, thus the neck scarf.
